FUN FACTORY - TV Show

The FUN FACTORY is a comedy drama series about a retro-style, seedy nightclub which plays host to a whole range of vibrant personalities. The series is seen through the eyes of JIMMY the central protagonist and DJ in the nightclub.

Through Jimmy we are introduced to the nightclub manager DENNIS - by day a grumpy manager disliked by many, by night his alter ego DEIRDRE takes over. She is the ultimate drag artist who regularly puts on shows for her ‘fans’ featuring eclectic characters in the most bizarre situations.

We first see Jimmy in the pilot episode when he arrives at the club for a daytime job interview with Dennis. After negotiating past two big mouthed cleaners, Jimmy encounters FABIO, a stuttering utility man and BOBBY KHAN, known to supply the place with the finest meats at a fraction of the normal cost.

Despite Dennis being an absolute arse during the day, Jimmy is successful enough to be given a start as a DJ at the venue.

The first shift is a real eye-opener for Jimmy. He is accosted by TRIPOD; a sinister-looking dwarf, FLAKE; a tall wiry queen, and TINA a butch dike who’s nobody’s fool – and these are just the staff! BIG KEV, a man mountain who controls the doors with Tripod is omni-present throughout but notably only speaks when he needs to.

When a stage performance goes wrong, Deirdre announces: 'Dwarf throwing time', Jimmy looks on fascinated as Tripod is thrown by Big Kev along the bar towards a bell which has to be hit for the Free Drinks to kick-in. He misses and the unimpressed customers quickly leave the premises.

It seems a disaster of a night for Jimmy until his eyes scan the gorgeously pure and perfect SALLY who appears to reciprocate a fortunate mutual interest. Despite being caught-up in his work for the remainder of the night, Jimmy is overjoyed when he meets Sally in a nearby kebab shop after his shift.

She exudes cool but is a woman who is not afraid to make the first move and she invites Jimmy to escort her to a nearby taxi rank.

The envious onlookers watch Sally and Jimmy make their way towards a long queue. Realising she has quite a wait on her hands. Sally asks Jimmy to hold her food.

A few feet away from the late-night revellers, Sally squats, hoists-up her long, white dress, and enjoys what looks like a most satisfying pee.

Jimmy is gob-smacked. He watches as an ocean of piss narrowly misses the toes of his shoes. Sally offers him eye contact throughout and her ‘doe-eyed’ expression leaves him confused and indecisive.

She removes her knickers to wipe herself dry. She stands, puts her knickers in her hand bag, takes back her food back from Jimmy and asks: “So are you coming back to mine then, or what?”

It a cliff-hanger alright! A decision to be made of Brechtian proportions.

The Pilot episode introduces the main characters of The Fun Factory. An interesting narrative develops in the episodes that follow. Many secrets are revealed, questions are answered and we encounter an array of interesting cameo characters and situations.
